The former head of a huge Racine area youth soccer organization has entered into a plea bargain with federal prosecutors and is pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.

Steven Rezmer was the head of a huge umbrella organization of Racine area youth soccer programs called Racine Area Soccer Association/AFC Union. His home in Somers in Kenosha County was raided last June by the Milwaukee office of the FBI. Rezmer resigned from his position shortly after the raid. No formal charges emerged until this year when Rezmer entered into the plea agreement.

This story has been essentially blacked out by virtually all local news media in Milwaukee and Racine. A Google search found no stories on it all, other than coverage by me and an aggressive Kenosha area online news outlet, Kenosha County Eye. That publication first reported on the raid last year and also first reported this week on Rezmer’s plea deal.

The plea agreement contains information that states federal agents recovered from Rezmer’s hard drive 57 images and 32 videos of minors engaging in explicit sexual contact. There is no indication any of the images involved local youth involved in the Racine soccer programs.

Rezmer is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court in Milwaukee in the fall. Most of these cases tend to be handled by local authorities and dealt with in state court. But Rezmer’s case was evidently part of a larger federal investigation into child pornography.

When I first reported on the raid in June of last year, I reported many parents were rightfully concerned. In the interim, others have asked me why local media has chosen not to touch the story. The most extensive coverage of the Rezmer case can be found at kenoshacountyeye.com but much of it is behind a paywall.
